Transitioning Summer Outfits into Fall ft. Mary Vu

Beginning

I can’t believe it’s already back-to-school season! In this week’s post, I’ve partnered up with fashionista Mary Vu to show you how to transition your summer wardrobe into fall– just in time for the first day of class. Mary and I met about two years ago while working together on a fashion show. Since then, I’ve kept up with her Instagram and noticed that she has an impeccable taste for clothing! I’m super excited for you guys to meet her.

Mary describes her personal style as “mostly street wear”. She keeps her outfits easy and comfortable while retaining an effortlessly cool vibe. Her fashion inspirations are Bella Hadid and Aimee Song (Song Of Style). She’s only 17 years old, yet well on her way to becoming a style icon. Make sure you peep her Instagram page @Maryvu1010! ALSO– please make sure to give our photographer Tiffany Nguyen MAJOR love for her amazing talents! I honestly think the photos from this post are some of my all time favorites! You can find her @tea.fny on Instagram.

For her first transition, Mary chose to style a plaid skirt by dressing it with lighter materials for the summer and opting for more layering pieces to transition her outfit to fall. She believes that plaid skirts are always trending since they’re a timeless piece!

For her summer look, Mary wanted to create an outfit that was simple yet playful. She paired the plaid skirt from Brandy Melville with a pair of black sunglasses from MONARCH TOKYO, a backpack from Target ($20), white top from Pacsun ($16), and finished off her look with some white sneakers from Nasty Gal ($30).

She then made her plaid skirt more suitable for fall by replacing the white top with a black denim jacket from TOPSHOP and a tube top from Meshki ($32). She paired her outfit with some black leather combat boots from Dr.Martens ($78) and a black hat from Urban Outfitters ($40).

If you knew me, you would know that my style is constantly changing. I can be super girly one day then changing to something incredibly grungy the next. I love experimenting with clothes and as of lately, I’ve started wearing clothes that are more street wear inspired. For my first transitional look I’ve decided to style a matching plaid set. I agree with Mary that plaid is super timeless and truly works for any season.

This matching set is from Windsor Store ($60). My favorite thing about this set is that it actually isn’t a skirt on the bottom, but a skort– super comfortable and you don’t have to worry about your skirt flipping up on windy fall days. I styled this set with a pair of black sunnies from Charlotte Russe ($5), my lightning bolt earrings from Target’s Wild Fable collection ($6), a leather purse-belt from Marshalls ($10), and my classic pair of white Skechers D’Lites.

To transition the outfit to fall, I wanted to keep warm while still wearing the matching set. I opted to layer on a black satin bomber from H&M ($15), replace my sneakers with some knee-high boots from Charlotte Russe ($20), and added my gold sun and moon earrings, once again from Target’s Wild Fable Collection ($6).

For her next transitional outfit, Mary chose to style a pair of khaki pants. Khaki pants work for both summer and fall because the material is lightweight and is super comfortable. She loves this style of pants because they’re currently in trend, versatile, and can easily be worn with either sneakers or boots.

For her second summer outfit, Mary styled her khaki pants from I AM GIA ($80) with a basic cropped, white tank-top from Forever21 ($2) and then layered on a baby-blue Adidas windbreaker. She’s wore the same white sneakers from her first summer outfit for an effortless, urban look.

To transition the khaki pants to fall, she decided to keep the top simple since the pants already made such a bold statement. She wore a white one-sleeve top from ARE YOU AM I and the same Dr.Martens from her previous fall outfit.

I really didn’t think I would ever wear camouflage, but here I am, styling a pair of camo pants. I think camo works for both summer and fall because it has natural elements of color like greens, browns, and black (black is a shade…but still).

In my summer outfit I paired my camo pants from Wild Fable ($28) with a black tank-top, also Wild Fable ($7), silver chain earrings from Forever21 ($3), and a pair of heels from DSW. I really like how the hardware details of my pants match with my silver chain earrings!

Transitioning the outfit to fall was pretty simple. I just replaced the tank top with my Adidas original pullover ($35), switched out the heels for my Skechers D’Lites, and added the same purse-belt from earlier.

That’s it for today, loves! I hope that this post has given you some inspiration on how to transition your own summer wardrobe into fall. If you try some of our tips out or have some tips of your own, please let me know in the comments! Once again, thank you so much to both Mary and Tiffany for collaborating with me on this post. I loved working with you creative souls!
